Houses in Pinheiro Manso

A garden featuring important tree species that traverses a housing block, constitutes an urban breach and marks a moment of change in the design of a number of streets. This statement essentially determined the approach to these dwellings in Pinheiro Manso. The new volume accompanies the garden, traversing, like it, the block and marking its presence in the streets here and there, like the dispersed volumes that characterise the north side of the block. It also defines, together with the garden, the two parts of the block: one dense with buildings fronting on to the street, with no spaces between them, on the southern side; and another, on the northern side, with the buildings set within gardens. Between the two is a space, a garden and a row of terraced houses.
